Do I need to already be an experienced musician ?

No.

Ms. Shoremount-Obra welcomes students of all levels and abilities into her studio. All that IS required is a passion for music and serious commitment to study.

Ms. Shoremount-Obra specializes in training opera singers and young classical singers, but does also enjoy working with theatre performers.

What is a typical lesson like?

Lessons are different for each student. Ms. Shoremount-Obra is an expert at identifying each singer's strengths and weaknesses, and therefore personalizes the training for each student.

What you can expect is a series of vocalises which will both "test" and "train" each singer. Over time, coordination of the breath mechanism in combination with the tongue, jaw, and resonators will enable each student to sing with a sturdy, well-supported, and more beautiful tone which is unique to him/herself.
Where do your student's perform?

Ms. Shoremount-Obra's young students have been accepted to such schools as Manhattan School of Music, Ithaca College, New England Conservatory, Eastman School of Music, Westminster Choir College, NYU and Oberlin Conservatory and have performed with the NJ Regional and All-State Choruses, and the All-Eastern Chorus (MENC and ACDA).
Child students have gained acceptance and perform with the prestigious  NJ Youth Chorus and Metropolitan Opera Childrens' Chorus. Adult Students have gained acceptance and perform with the Oratorio Society of New York, Masterworks Chorus, New Jersey State Opera, among other organizations.
